Key services for students include:

  • Pre-departure advicetutu
  • Arranging and confirming a wide variety of secure, comfortable and convenient accommodation within walking distance of UCT campus.
  • Ensuring students are met at Cape Town International Airport on arrival.
  • Assisting the students with the move to their respective accommodation for the semester.
  • Providing a personalized orientation to UCT and its immediate surrounds during the first few days in Cape Town.
  • Hosting a dinner for all IDACA students to meet each other.
  • Employing a small,carefully selected team of senior U.C.T. student associates who maintain regular contact with the semester abroad students and provide advice and information on the city. The student associates facilitate socializing with local students.
  • Arranging a social history tour of Cape Town as well as outings during the first few days of arrival.
  • Familiarizing students with transport in Cape Town.
  • Acting as a “safety net” should this be necessary during the semester.
  • Scheduling any medical appointments necessary and providing transport as well as any follow-up services should this be required.
  • Assisting with finding voluntary work placements other than those offered by student organizations at UCT.
  • Hosting a number of talks, discussions throughout the semester which provide insight into the complex history of the country as well as its current challenges.
  • Organizing outings and hikes which allow students to experience and explore the city of spectacular contrasts.
